"I was seven years old when my father left. My mother would tell me I was the new man of the house. It was hard not seeing my mom much because of her day and night jobs. She said that she would work to provide everything my sisters and I needed and in return we had to stay in school and be at the top of our class. With my mom working so much and giving many opportunities to do something good with my life it helped open my eyes to greater things than just earning a high school diploma. I know that by continuing my education and following my dreams of becoming a civil engineer I will be able to have a better life by enabling myself to do something that I love doing."
